Playdough Play

After once again being inspired by Pinterest, Noah and I set out this morning to make playdough together during Beau's naptime. I had seen a "pin" on Pinterest espousing to have "the best playdough recipe ever". It was worth a try and I had no better clue as to what a good recipe was for playdough. So with my eager little helper we got started. (For details of the recipe go here).

The plan was to make just one batch - Noah chose to make it blue, and it looked spectacular. But Noah was very excited and wanted to try all the colours, so we decided to make some more. We then made purple and yellow. Noah learnt all about mixing colours and why we don't put some of every colour in together (unless we wanted brown/black playdough). Whilst Noah was eager to keep going, Beau woke up and ended our playdough-colour-mixing-lesson-fun.

Of course, waiting for the playdough to cool down was the hardest part!

We did learn something else along the way as well. I couldn't find the plain flour when we started out. All I could find was my husbands Tippo OO flour for making pasta and pizza dough. So we used that instead. When we were cooking the second batch on the stove, I spotted the plain flour behind the stove (of course) and so we made the yellow with plain flour. But OO flour makes AMAZING playdough! So silky and soft and springy! The poor yellow playdough just seemed so inferior in comparison! So now we have the BEST PLAYDOUGH RECIPE EVER!

BEST PLAYDOUGH RECIPE EVER!
1 cup OO flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 Tbls. vegetable oil
food coloring (I used 4-6 drops)
Dump all the ingredients into your pot and give them a good stir. Put your pot on the stove and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it forms into a ball. As soon as it joins into one big glob, take it off the heat and dump it onto your counter or some wax paper.  Wait for it to cool, then knead it a few times until it is nice and soft.
Enjoy!
